On Friday, April 17, Charge d ’Affairs Scott Rauland warmly welcomed to the Embassy a group of four American high school students who represented the U.S. at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad held this year in Minsk. The American girls were one of thirty teams involved in the competition and were accompanied by Dr. Mark Saul from the Mathematical Association of America. During the informal reception, the contestants explained how they were selected and discussed their future career plans in applied mathematics and computer science. Their efforts at the competition were well rewarded: the team received three gold medals and one silver.
