Mr. Jonathan Katz, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the USAID Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, is visiting Minsk on April 20-22. While in Minsk, Mr. Katz will have meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, and civil society and business community representatives.

On April 21st, Mr. Katz will kick-off Venture Day This year’s theme is Technology for a Healthy Future. This one-day conference followed by a 48-hour hackathon is organized with USAID support and will bring together investors, tech geeks, startup enthusiasts, health experts and engineers, ecologists and green activists.

As USAID increasingly supports innovations and entrepreneurship in Belarus through start-up events, competitions and master classes, Mr. Katz will announce a new USAID project, Facilitating Access to Venture Funding in Belarus (AID-VENTURE).

USAID will support a five year, $2.5 million project that will contribute to the growth of startups and expansion of the role of the private sector in the economy of Belarus. This project will help create an environment conducive to venture funding, expand the availability of venture capital, and help strengthen the local community of private venture investors. Through an open competition, USAID seeks applications from qualified regional and Belarus nonprofit or for-profit non-governmental entities.
