Case Status

You can check the status of your visa application on ceac.state.gov.

Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a consular officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement when they apply. Most administrative processing is resolved within 60 days of the visa interview. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on the individual circumstances of each case.

If your visa has been denied, you may find useful information on Ineligibilities and Waivers on travel.state.gov.

In most cases, applicants who are qualified for visas may pick up their passports with the visa on Monday, Wednesday or Friday  between 4:00 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Some visas can take up to 3 weeks or more to process; please plan accordingly. Please note that listed processing times are averages and timing may vary based on the individual circumstances of each case.

If you are renewing your visa, and we have not contacted you within three days after the submission, we will complete processing on your case by Monday after the day you applied on.

We will hand over your passport, with the visa in it, to the person who is holding the receipt. If the receipt is lost or mutilated, we will return the passport only to the passport holder or the person who will have an notarized power of attorney (U.S. Notary only) from the applicant.

We advise that you do not make your travel reservations until you have your visa in hand.
