Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin is visiting Minsk, Belarus February 26-28, 2015. Mr. Rubin will conduct a wide range of meetings, including with government officials (among others, Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei), members of the Diplomatic Corps, civil society, the political opposition, and relatives of political prisoners. In his meetings, Mr. Rubin will explore the possibility for improved cooperation with Belarus on areas of mutual concern, such as combatting trafficking in persons, commercial activities, and non-proliferation, while emphasizing long-standing U.S. concerns on the need for enhanced respect for human rights and democratization.
